Destination: Costa Rica
I recently got back from my second trip to Costa Rica in the last 3 months. The first time I visited, it was because I was photographing a wedding at Chachagua Rainforest Eco Lodge, but that’s for another post. I wanted to share these photos, and tell you about why I fell in love with Costa Rica and think it’s an awesome place to get married.
I decided to come back to Costa Rica with my husband, because he just HAD to see it for himself. Backstory- we are not “tropical” folks. Our idea of a great vacation isn’t lounging on a warm sand beach drinking rum. Ask either of us what our bucket list of trips is, and it’ll be something like: Norway, Iceland, Austria, Mongolia (you get the idea).
When I was in Costa Rica a few months ago for that wedding, something unexpected happened- I fell in love! Maybe it’s the people- everyone I met was so relaxed, friendly, and real. There wasn’t much of a language barrier, even though I speak very little Spanish. It seemed like everyone is fairly content with life. Or maybe it was the scenery. It’s epic- think mountains, volcanoes surrounded by lush rainforest, waterfalls, butterflies and birds everywhere. Locals say “Pura Vida”. Literally translated, it means “Pure Life” or “Living the simple life”. But Costa Ricans use it constantly- to say hello, to say goodbye, and to say “everything’s great”. I guarantee if you visit Costa Rica you’ll experience Pura Vida and when you leave, it’ll be a part of you.
Costa Rica Weddings
Costa Rica is an amazing place to get married. Especially if you’re a couple who appreciates nature and ecology. It’s one of the most beautiful, bio-diverse places on the planet. There are so many options for spectacular locations to have a wedding ceremony- from waterfalls to giant rainforest trees to hanging bridges to volcanoes and more! You’re guaranteed to feel a vibrant connection with the Earth here.
Costa Rica Wedding Planner
At the wedding I photographed, I had the opportunity to work with an amazing wedding planner, who I now call my good friend. Tui Frye is the owner of Blue Butterfly Events in Costa Rica, a wedding and elopement planning service. She is AMAZING! The way she cares about her couples and their experience, helps them connect with nature, and handles every minute detail with ease is incredible. I could go on and on, but I really just want to get to the photos!
Here are some of my favorite photos from Costa Rica. These start in San Jose, then document our trip to Chachagua Eco Lodge, to La Fortuna, around the Arenal Volcano, and finally back to San Jose.
If you’re planning a destination wedding or elopement, and think Costa Rica might be a location to consider, please reach out to me! I’d love to tell you everything I know (about the currency, the culture, where to go, what to do, etc!).
