Rocky Mountain National Park Elopement

I met up with Magen and Kyle in Estes Park. They’re from the Chicago area, but they chose the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado for their wedding location because they’re cool like that. The park has some specific rules about where you can do your ceremony, and a permit is required, but they took care of that ahead of time with my guidance.
The couple got ready together in their cabin and got dressed in separate rooms so they could have a surprise “first look” before we headed over to the mountains. Which was their idea, and it was awesome! The hike up to Dream Lake was crazy, but also totally amazing. It was icy and snowy, so we all had to wear ice cleats on our boots. But the temps were in the upper 60’s, so it wasn’t cold. There weren’t many other hikers around, so it was quiet and peaceful.
After their ceremony, they had their first dance (courtesy of a Bluetooth speaker) and shared a champagne toast and mini cupcakes. As the light started to fade, we hiked back and talked about how incredible the day had been.
Colorado Self-Solemnizing Marriage
Did you know that in certain states in the US, you can self-marry? That means you can perform your own wedding ceremony without the help of an officiant or anyone else, and legally sign your own marriage license. Colorado is one of those states, and I think it’s awesome because you can have a completely private, intimate wedding ceremony and do it completely your way.
Lume Photography is a fine art elopement and wedding photographer based in Michigan, travelling worldwide. Behind the camera you’ll find me (Andrea)- a girl who loves animals, the wilderness, and love stories. I believe in magic, soulmates, and the hidden forces of energy that connect everything and everyone in the universe. My favorite places are the woods, the mountains, and the ocean. My passion is documenting the moments, emotions and connection between two souls in love, in wild places. I travel to Arizona, Colorado, California, Scotland, and beyond to photograph wild elopements and small destination weddings.
