This couple’s destination elopement was truly one for the books! On the morning of the Summer Solstice, they stood in the cool waters of Lake Superior at sunrise, on the northern shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula. It was quiet and overcast, but absolutely beautiful. Their intimate ceremony, officiated by Chad Mager, took place in a stunning rocky cove as their closest family members gathered on the shore to witness. The couple, joined by their brave officiant, walked into the lake for a magical handfasting ceremony.

Unique Handfasting Ceremony and Beautiful Florals

The couple’s ceremony included a handfasting, a beautiful ancient tradition symbolizing their union. The florals, artfully crafted by Protea Floral, featured local greenery that perfectly complemented the natural surroundings of the Keweenaw. Every detail was thoughtful, earthy, and connected to the land—adding to the magic of the morning.

A Beautiful Reception at Harbor Haus

After the ceremony, the celebration continued at Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor. Their event space, right next to the lake, was filled with fresh greenery and thoughtful details. The family helped create a cozy, heartfelt reception, with two cakes and handcrafted chocolate favors made by the bride’s sister, who owns an artisan chocolate boutique. The guests enjoyed delicious food and drinks, along with a couple of heartwarming speeches that made the afternoon even more special.

Exploring the Rocky Shoreline of Copper Harbor at Sunset

As the day transitioned into evening, I met back up with the couple for a sunset session along Copper Harbor’s rugged shoreline, composed of ancient preserved lava. We explored the area as the sun cast its final golden rays. As the moon rose, we wrapped up the session—adding a final touch of magic to their already unforgettable day.
