“I am yours, the way the sea belongs to the moon, the way the moon belongs to the sky, and even if the jealous stars break and shatter upon the milky way, I will still see heaven in your eyes.” —Mark Anthony
From the moment they reached out, it was clear that Victoria and Nicholas wanted more than just an elopement; they wanted an adventure, an escape into nature that reflected the depth of their bond. With my help and guidance, they chose Horseshoe Harbor, near Copper Harbor, as their ceremony spot. And they added a one-hour guided forest adventure at Estivant Pines.
the eagle river lighhouse
The day began at a place as unique as their love story – the Eagle River Lighthouse. This historic beacon turned charming home rental served as their sanctuary, where they prepared for the journey ahead, not just as a couple but as best friends embarking on life’s greatest adventure. The lighthouse, with its walls steeped in history and windows opening to the soul of the lake, was the perfect backdrop for the beginning of their day. In Calumet, we picked up Victoria’s bouquet, a masterpiece crafted by Calumet Floral, embodying the wildness and grace of the Upper Peninsula.
Old growth pines and ancient moss
As we ventured through the trails of Estivant Pines, I guided them, sharing stories of the forest and its ancient inhabitants. Victoria, a lover of all things natural, collected moss to keep as a living memory of this day, a small piece of the wilderness that would find a new home with them.
But as it often goes with adventures, the unexpected became part of our story. Thunder rumbled a prelude to a sudden downpour, quickly turning into a hailstorm. With ponchos and umbrellas at the ready, we laughed through the surprise shower, a testament to their adventurous spirit and my promise to always be prepared for anything.
A double rainbow surprise
The storm passed as quickly as it arrived, leaving behind a double rainbow that arched over Horseshoe Harbor like a gateway to their new beginning. There, on the lava rocks that have stood the test of time, they exchanged vows in a ceremony so heartfelt it moved the very essence of nature around us. The setting sun painted the sky in hues of love and promise as they promised forever to each other.
Our day didn’t end with the vows. We celebrated with a walk along the ridge, shared laughter and champagne toasts on the beach, and closed the chapter with an intimate dinner at The Fitz, reflecting on the day’s beauty and the many adventures that lie ahead.
To Victoria and Nicholas: may your lives together be as adventurous and love-filled as your enchanting elopement day. Thank you for letting me be a part of your beautiful beginning. xo Andrea
