Looking for more than just a traditional family photo session? My family sessions are all about capturing the real moments that make your family unique. From exploring the stunning Keweenaw landscape to those in-between moments that show your love and connection, this experience is designed to be adventurous, stress-free, and—most importantly—fun. You don’t have to be ‘camera-ready’ or worry about perfection. My sessions are laid-back, stress-free, and focused on capturing the true essence of your family’s connection in the great outdoors.

Family sessions take place in the Keweenaw area, within an hour of Houghton, MI.

Hey, I’m Andrea

I’ve been photographing families in the wild for over a decade, and I specialize in crafting experiences that let you relax and have fun. Besides doing my thing here at Lume Photography, I’m an herbalist, forager, crafter, and explorer. I love puns and awful dad jokes.

I’m all about making the session feel like an adventure rather than a photoshoot. You’ll be exploring nature, laughing, playing, and sharing real moments together. My goal is for your family to have a memorable day that goes beyond just taking photos—it’s about creating lasting memories in nature.

  • Back-up day in case of bad weather. Yep, you’ve read it right! I reserve extra days for you to make sure we can change our plans if the weather decides to be difficult.
  • Session guide & expert planning assistance. Remove the stress and uncertainty of figuring things out on your own – I’ll help you every step of the way!
  • Carefully curated locations. No overcrowded tourist traps (unless you insist, vigorously!). I’ll share my favorite secret spots. :)

I promise you’re not alone in feeling this way! My sessions are laid-back, with no stiff poses or awkward moments. I guide you with easy, natural prompts that help everyone relax and have fun.

It really depends on the forecast and if you’re dead set against it. I don’t mind a little rain and I find it can actually be great for atmosphere and beautiful lighting. We can always adjust the session time to work around intermittent rain, too.

If the forecast calls for heavy rain or a torrential downpour, I’ll have backup dates available (usually the day before or after) to ensure we still have an incredible experience.

Totally normal! The best thing you can do is let your kids be themselves. Please, don’t worry about telling them to smile, “be good,” or act a certain way for the camera. I know it’s tempting, but trust me—putting that pressure on them can stress them out and make it harder to capture those authentic moments. I’m here to document the real stuff—whether they’re smiling, laughing, running around, or being a goofy. Whatever they’re doing, I promise, we’ll get amazing photos of your kids just being themselves. And yes, we’ll absolutely get those beautiful smiles too—when they’re ready!

Yes! Your dog is part of the family, and they’re more than welcome to join the fun. We’ll include them in some of the photos and then let them relax while we focus on your family.

If anyone in the family is feeling under the weather, it’s super important that we reschedule the session. I really can’t afford to get sick, as it can have a serious impact on my health and my ability to attend upcoming scheduled events. I want everyone to feel their best and fully enjoy the experience, so if sickness strikes, just let me know and we’ll find a new date that works for all of us!
