Waterfall Elopement: A Wild-Hearted Wedding in the Keweenaw
“It’s a profoundly strange feeling, to stumble across someone whose desires are shaped so closely to your own, like reaching toward your reflection in a mirror and finding warm flesh under your fingertips. If you should ever be lucky enough to find that magical, fearful symmetry, I hope you’re brave enough to grab it with both hands and not let go.” —Alix E. Harrow
Ohhh, friends. This day. THIS DAY.
Where do I even begin?
Amber and Alan’s wedding wasn’t just a ceremony, it was a soul-nourishing adventure. A sacred, joy-drenched chapter of their love story, whispered into the wind by the rushing water of Middle Hungarian Falls on Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. On a warm spring day I had the absolute honor of standing beside them as they pledged their forever to each other with sparkly eyes, and hearts wide open.
They got ready in the Aurora Suite at Fresh Coast Cabins (I was blown away at how cool this suite is!). Their first look? All the feels. Amber was radiant in her dreamy dress, and Alan? A whole forest prince in his sharp suit. And THEN their glorious, dirt-dusted, road-trippin’ truck rolled them away like something out of a love story-meets-action movie.
At the falls, we grounded with a quiet couples’ meditation surrounded by moss, mist, and magic. They created a little altar with photos of their beloved cats – who couldn’t be there physically but were absolutely there in spirit – and said vows that were so full of truth, softness, and grit. It was goosebumps all around. Rings exchanged. Hearts sealed. I pronounced them married and the forest practically cheered.
But it doesn’t end there oh no. These wild-hearted lovers went into the waterfall’s basin, letting the icy spring water refresh them like a baptism into married life. Brave? Yep. Symbolic? Totally. Epic? Beyond.
From there we wandered to the shore of Lake Superior at Hunter’s Point Park, where Liz from Wholesome Habitats had conjured a private beach dinner straight out of a fairy tale. A candlelit cove beside the mighty Lake Superior. A multi-course feast of locally-inspired magic. And the pièce de résistance? A lovingly crafted carrot cake (their fave!) so good it could convert even the fiercest chocolate loyalist.
As twilight painted the sky, they walked in candlelight, played with sparklers, and explored the shoreline like kids at heart. Every moment glowed with joy, playfulness, and that kind of deep, grounded love that makes you believe in the universe’s perfect timing.
Amber and Alan – two compassionate, funny, wild-souled humans who love cats, nature, and each other fiercely – you made magic. Your elopement was the dreamiest fusion of adventure, intimacy, and straight-up heart. And I’ll never forget it.
What’s a Storyfilm?
Before we dive into the magic of Amber & Alan’s waterfall vows, let me introduce you to something truly special: the Storyfilm.
These aren’t your typical wedding videos. Not even close.
A Storyfilm is a dreamy little hybrid creation: a heartfelt blend of GIFs, still photographs, and short video clips—woven together into a visual love story you can feel.
It’s like flipping through a photo album that suddenly springs to life.
Like a memory that shimmers and breathes and speaks.
Like the heartbeat of the day captured in movement, sound, and soul.
Just the sweet, sparkly essence of your day told the way it felt. They’re especially perfect for elopements (where the vibe is tender, adventurous, and full of those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of moments).
Amber & Alan’s Storyfilm is waiting for you at the end of their gallery. Watch it with your heart wide open. You’ll see what I mean. 💫
Andrea
Aaaaand drumroll please… presenting their StoryFilm:
I’m Andrea.
Photographer, storyteller, wanderer of woods and old paths. I believe in the kind of love that’s quiet and powerful. The kind that shows up in small gestures, knowing glances, shared silence. I photograph real moments because those are the ones that matter most- the ones that hold the soul of the story.
