Elopement Photos At Hungarian Falls
“May my heart be the softest place you fall, may this love be the wildest place you run “~ Butterflies Rising
Some couples just have this incredible, magnetic vibe. These two? They’re the embodiment of it. Their first message to me was simple and heartfelt: “We both love the northwestern side of the Upper Peninsula… just us and our two dogs, in the nature we love.” Right from the start, I could tell they wanted to create an experience that was all about savoring life’s beautiful, quiet moments with their favorite things: each other, their pups, and the wild landscapes they loved.
Already married in a quick, private ceremony, this time around they wanted something different, something that would allow them to fully soak in their love story with a backdrop that felt just right. So, when they asked for a location that would bring this vision to life, I knew where to take them: Hungarian Falls on the Keweenaw Peninsula.
The Location: Hungarian Falls
There’s something almost otherworldly about Hungarian Falls, especially as summer begins to fade. The sound of water cascading over ancient rocks, towering trees…it’s a place that demands presence and connection. We met up on a perfect, late summer afternoon with that warm, glowy light.
I brought a little surprise—a picnic basket filled with local beers from Keweenaw Brewing Co. (Widowmaker is hands-down my favorite) and handmade tarts from Toni’s Country Kitchen. I wanted this day to feel like a true celebration, not just a photo session—something they’d look back on and remember as an experience, a moment of pure joy.
The Experience
The three of us—well, five if you count their dogs—set off on a little adventure along the falls. We settled in by the water, enjoying the treats, sharing stories, and letting the dogs do what they do best: play fetch (forever, because they never seem to tire!). Between the laughs, stick-throwing, and splash-filled fun, I captured those beautiful in-between moments—magic in its purest form.
Her dress was stunning, too, a delicate yet bold creation she’d sewn herself. There’s something so meaningful about wearing a piece of clothing you’ve put your heart into, especially on a day that celebrates love and connection.
A Final Surprise: Chasing the Milky Way
As the sun started to dip, I had one last surprise up my sleeve. I took them to one of my favorite high spots on the Keweenaw, where we watched the sky fade to dusk and stars begin to appear. The night gifted us with crystal-clear skies, and soon the Milky Way stretched above us like an endless tapestry. It was the perfect, breathtaking ending—a quiet moment with the universe as their backdrop.
Their day wasn’t about fancy setups or orchestrated moments. It was about them, their love, and this beautiful slice of nature they cherish. We left Hungarian Falls under the stars, grateful for a day that had been as simple, meaningful, and unforgettable as their story.
Here’s to many more moments like these, and to all of us finding our way to the places and people that feel like home.
