Lake Superior Elopement | Mystical Wedding in Copper Harbor
If you want to run to a quiet place at the end of this world, just run with me ~ Alexandra Vasiliu
Wrapped in fog.
Thick with meaning.
This was one of those days.
The story begins at Fresh Coast Cabins. They had hoped for fog. They got an entire atmosphere. A first look out on the lake, cloaked in that silvery glow, felt intimate and cinematic all at once. No audience. Just the lake, the trees, and two souls seeing each other fully.
A detail I have to mention: his pocket boutonniere. It wasn’t just florals: it held some of his actual fishing lures. It was delicate and badass. Calumet Floral and Gifts nailed it.
Then came the journey to Fish Cove. And make no mistake, the journey to this place does not come easy. It’s remote. It’s rugged. It’s a little wild and a lot sacred. Even in a high-clearance vehicle, it’s a challenge. But so worth it. Because when we arrived? The landscape felt like a portal. All stone and lake and wind. Like the earth was holding its breath for something big.
The ceremony was rich with meaning. They began with an energy cleansing to clear out the old, stagnant energy and welcome in fresh, new beginnings. We called in spirit guides for witnesses and for protection. It felt ancient and rooted and wholly personal.
They read personal vows.
Then…a great blue heron flew overhead.
Yes, really! It was majestic. One of those slow-motion moments you never forget.
They tied their hands together with a handfasting, then did a water-blending ceremony where they blended waters from their lives. Each jar contained some water from a body of water that held significance to each of them. Then they added water from Lake Superior at their ceremony spot. Two paths blending into one.
And then, oops! We realized time had slipped through our fingers. They had dinner reservations. We packed up fast, still spinning from ceremony magic. And just when we thought it couldn’t get more enchanted?
BUTTERFLIES.
A whole flock of monarchs surrounded us as we walked back over the bluff. Orange wings everywhere. Like confetti from the spirit realm. Like the ancestors showed up. It was electric.
They made it to Harbor Haus just in time for a quiet, romantic dinner. A deep exhale. Then, over to Brickside Brewery for one last seasonal pint. It’s their favorite Copper Harbor spot. A soft landing.
Now get this: a group of tourists from Wisconsin caught on that this was a wedding celebration. Out of nowhere, they broke into song. L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole. Yes, a full serenade. These two danced their first dance in a cozy brewpub with strangers cheering them on. Such a purely joyous moment in time! Super special!
Their wedding story closed with a walk on the lakeshore back at the cabins. The fog still hung over the water. We lit candles. Took photos. The atmosphere was eerie, romantic, otherworldly.
A love story told in whispers and wind.
Metal souls. Soft hearts.
Completely unforgettable.
